First Holy Communion at St Mary Mackillop Parish
First Holy Communion: The Final Step in Christian Initiation
Once a child has been baptised and confirmed, receiving Holy Communion for the first time—sharing in the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass—marks the culmination of their journey of initiation into the Church. Joining the rest of the faith community at the Lord’s Table is a powerful symbol of full belonging to the parish.
When and Where Is First Communion Celebrated?
Children who have been baptised and confirmed are generally ready to receive their First Communion in Grade Four. This important occasion is celebrated in our Parish during weekend Masses.
Who Helps Prepare Children for First Communion?
Parents and carers, along with the parish community, play a key role in preparing children for this sacred milestone. They support the child both spiritually and practically, helping them understand and participate in the rituals involved. Our Parish offers a Sacramental Programme including Mass attendance and workshops to thoroughly prepare the children .
Our Parish has celebrated First Holy Communion this year (2025). Please check back here at the start of 2026 for the important Sacramental Programme dates or contact the Parish Office here to register your interest.
